Pictures-fun and science/Books!!!

Isn't she just cute as can be.
This is a lego art piece by Catherine. It is the Red Panther. (Cat, Jo and Nate have really started to enjoy watching the Classic Pink Panther and watch it some nights before heading off to bed.)..

These next two pictures could catch you off guard, so if you are not one to love science.. dont look at them. Melissa was gracious enough to share with us a Pig Heart and baby pig that she got from the Universities science department. These were used in the science classes at the school and then the professor offered them through the homeschool group. Cat, Jo and Nate were very interested in them but didnt like the smell of formaldehyde.

The heart was cut in to so we could look at its amazing insides.
The baby had been dissected as well so we peeked around inside at its heart, lungs, ribs, .. well.. everything..

We have about 50 pages left in the Phantom Tollbooth book. Today we are going to make some dodecahedron with twelve expressions, just like the character in the book. The kids loved the Mathmagician and cant wait to see if Milo can bring Rhyme and Reason back.

I began reading My Side of the Mountain to Cat, Jo and Nate, on the suggestion of Jana. We are only on page 38 and LOVE it! .. The story is of a boy who goes to live by himself on he great-grandpa's land in the Catskill mountains. He ends up living in the hollow of a Hemlock tree. Last night after we read by the fire I looked up images on the internet of the Catskills, Hemlocks, and Nathan just had to know what a crayfish looked like. We cant wait to see what happens!

I am searching for another book to read to all the children that I can finish by May. I would like to read a classic, it might end up being The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe or I might just go with Aesop or Wind in the Willows.. Oh.. So many to choose from..

I LOVED the Phantom Tollbooth. It was sooo good. I'm glad you're having so much fun teaching, Ruth (and learning along the way!). Also, thanks for that international children's library link...I think we'll be using it a lot for the schoool here in Taiwan.
