Our Today

Here's what we did today

Our Greek Root of the Week:
graph: meaning, to write or draw.. words we talked about that have GRAPH in them (Autograph-Ka) .. Photograph (cat_).. {the kids are to think of other words this week so we can add them to our list}

WE also talked about our word from last week: Photos: Light and talked about something being phototropic (like a sunflower-turning toward the light) and photophobia (dislikes light) {like our sucker fish that hide in the cave in our aquarium... Tay just had to turn out the light to see if it would come and.. and it did!)

It was really fun today when the kids figured out Jos name was from greek because it ended in PH and made the F sound.. they were really excited!

Science:
We started the morning with a little Magic School Bus and then played a few minutes in the backyard.. then we left for our nature walk. We walked down some alleys in our neighborhood (which I love walking down cause it feels like you are on a country road) the kids had baggies and gathered things they liked (rocks, leaves, pinecones, flowers, feathers, etc) . We came home and got out the microscope (which I got this weekend for $3 at a garage sale) and looked at some of the things the kids got on the walk and then we looked at sugar, Yeast and yeast reacting to sugar and water mixed.. we could really see it growing! ..

Science book work:
The kids illustrated the sun and all the planets with their first letter of each name. We also listened to Science Verse.. which are silly poems having to do with science.. my only dislike for the book is they have two that incorporate the big bang and evolution.. (WE SKIP THOSE) but we also talk about them.. and how it was GOD who created us! and the Universe! The rest of the book is great.. Cat has most of them memorized she has listened to them so much)

Math: the Kids played computer games today for math, place tens, adding by 5, etc.. Played Trouble (the young ones.. and answered math questions from me (the older ones)

Kam and Nate both took a fun little test on the Jumpstart Preschool computer game we have and both did very well.. it is interesting cause most of Nate weaknesses are Kams Strengths and vice versa..

Reading:
I played flash cards with Jo and Tao while Ka and Cat worked on their English (looking up words in the dictionary etc) .. The flash cards were of sight words.. they did very well..
Ka, Nate, Jo and Tay then played a matching game with cards to match up the same letters of the alphabet..

Books we read today:
Tough Boris ... God knows Everything, and A King and Three thieves, a Persian tale..

Bible:
We listened to the story of Esther on "Your Story Hour" tape series.

I was surprised to see that the time flew by today and I got the kids to rest (quiet) time a little late :(.. time flies when you are having fun!

One thing I have decided to do is to create a wish list for our homeschool .. I hope to post that on the side of my menu bar on this blog when I figure out how or if it is possible.. That way our grandparents wont have to guess what to get for birthdays! :)
