We are back in the swing of things. Here is what we did today.
Our book work went by fast today. The kids got done and I checked their work and we were finished by 11 or so. After book work was finished Jo, Nate, Kamie and Nate played using their imagination while Cat and Kaleb worked on their addition facts. They played battle and timed each other to see who could get the most card in one minute.
The kids enjoyed a hour or so of "dancing" which is really more running, jumping and gymnastics than dance. We had lunch, cleaned up a bit and then I read from our history.
Today we learned about the Romans, that they had the same gods as the Greeks but with different names, we also learned they were the first ancient people to use concrete, building roads, apartment buildings etc .. we learned about aqueducts and that they brought water into their citied from 30 miles away. The Romans took over all the the Italian peninsula, so we talked about the difference between a island and a peninsula.
Then we got to read from the Phantom Tollbooth book. The kids seem to really enjoy it. Today we got to learn about the two cities Illusion and Reality. I would tell you more on this but I dont want to ruin the book for you if you have never read it.
The kids are now down for quiet reading time. They are happy that their quiet reading time will count toward the book it club where they can earn six flags tickets for reading.
Tomorrow I hope to have the kids build their own Roman road and aqueducts. I also hope it is warm enough and not so windy so we can go for a nature walk.
here are some links about the Romans:

Wow, there were two Nates there? Interesting... =)
The Phantom Tollbooth sounds like so much fun! I'm kind of wishing I could take a trip to the city of Illusion right about now, ha!
