Wild Wonderful Wednesday

ZOO!
Just gave the kids a little surprise today and took them to the zoo.. Batteries were down on the camera .. so no photos :( heres a bit of what we did: thought it would be fun to incorporate some of the questions asked today

Got up close and personal with two Peacocks! (everyone!)
Its called IRIDESCENCE.. Their feathers on the necks.. its blue.. then green .. its iridescence. (R)
Is (x) animal a herbivore, Ominivor or a Carnivor. (R)
Which snake can survive a rattle snake bite? (R).. Kingsnake -jo answered
What kind of fish are those? (cant remember who asked)
Hey! look at the Rabbit (it was a wild rabbit that Tay found)
What are the monkeys tails called? Prehensile (R asked Cat answered)
Look at the webbed feet on that turtle! (cant remember who asked)
HEY>. That duck has fingernails! (R)
Can I put my hand in so the giraffe can lick my hand? Its feels neat.. but stinks" (Tay)
The moms are usually the best hunters. (Ka)
Are they a herbivore, omnivore or a carnivor? (R)
How fast can that Proghorn run? (40 mph- fastest land mammal in North America) (Cat and K)
The cheetah doesnt live in North America. (R)
I hear a ROOSTER! its time to wake up! (R)
That birds favorite food is the Cobra! (secretary bird) (Ka)
"Hey.. atleast we have food to feed the ducks.. some kids come and just have to LOOK!" (K)
I see a mouse! (Tay)
Heres the Elephant Nose Fish! (Tay)
Where did the catfish go? (R)
MOM>. they say its a Cobra.. but its not.. its a BOA Constrictor! (nate)
OH>> its our favorite.. the Meerkats! (Jo)
I counted 15 living things in that cage.. plants, lizards, and bugs. (cat)
Whats this ones Latin name? (R)
Can I hold the Butterfly? (each kids got to hold the butterfly jo caught!) we talked bout its proboscis of course!
A ground hog looks like a rabbit.. Without ears (Tay)
ooohh.. look at that bug!
Can I run?


So there I was.. no lesson plan in hand.. just a trip to the zoo.. isnt it amazing what you can learn and share if you just talk with your kids while you are there.. and read the info posted!

Math.. (how many monkeys did you see? How tall do you think it is? etc)
Spelling.. (hey that Latin word is spelled ....)
PE.. great exercise.. and lions sleep 18 to 20 hours a day!
Respect (we are to be quiet when going into this exhibit!)



.. oh I could go on and On..
I must go get the laundry going..

Okay, you're going to laugh at me, but I had to go through ALL the names thinking, "Who is R?" I was like, "Cat, Jo, Nate, Ka, Tay, Kam...who is R?" I finally figured it out. =)

What a wonderful lesson! Wow, kids are so super-smart. I am learning from them, and you can tell all of them for me! (Plus give them a big hug too.)
